NEW DELHI: A key witness in the Nitish Katara murder case was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday after he complained that he had been poisoned. The case will be heard in court today.

Ajay Katara, no relative of the victim, who was the last person to have seen Nitish being taken away in a car, landed in Pannalal Shyamlal Hospital, Ghaziabad, at 10:30pm and told the doctor that he had been poisoned.

“The doctors conducted certain medical tests on Katara and concluded that he had not been poisoned,” said the senior superintendent of police (Ghaziabad) Deepak Ratan.

When doctors wanted Katara to undergo further tests, he refused. “We have a hospital document signed by Ajay Katara which says that he did not want to undergo these tests,” said Ratan. Katara had told doctors that he had eaten chat and ice-cream with friends and started feeling a little uneasy.

“Since Ajay has lodged a complaint that he was poisoned, we are probing the case,” the police officer added.
