The deceased’s husband to be called for questioning

New DELHI: The Lady Army officer who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her official residence in Jammu may have been murdered, say Army sources, while admitting that the state police has repeatedly asked for her Army officer husband for questioning.

Major Megha Razdan, 26, was found hanging on Sunday afternoon from a ceiling fan in her official residence where she was living with her Army officer husband Captain Chaitanya Bhatwadekar. Sources told DNA that Megha’s husband Bhatwadekar is a “critical link” in solving her murder. And the state police and Army would “firm up” their opinion only after detailed questioning of the husband.

Captain Bhatwadekar has offered to cooperate with the investigations after the last rites of Megha are carried out, after the arrival of his parents from Sudan where they live now. Bhatwadekars are expected to arrive in Jammu on Wednesday. Sources said the Jammu police and the Army inquiry, headed by Brigadier BS Negi, are piecing together the entire sequence leading up to her death.

An Army source here indicated that Megha was brought to the hospital alive, but died soon. As the investigators piece together the sequence of events through Sunday, there are several questions cropping up, say sources. Among them, Megha’s absence when a few people had come looking for her at her house in the afternoon. There are questions also being raised about the suspicious suicide note, typed out on a laptop and printed out.

The investigators are also looking at the possibility of questioning Megha’s intimate friends. A dependable source told DNA, “The police are looking at if there was any other person in Megha’s life.”

Civil doctors have completed the autopsy of the body, and the investigators were waiting for a detailed report late on Wednesday evening. However, preliminary investigations have shown that there were injury marks on her body and some indications that she may not have died of hanging.
