DNA’s findings of Pratibha’s misuse of MPLAD funds circulated

NEW DELHI: With fresh revelations surfacing against the UPA-Left candidate Pratibha Patil and her kin including allegations of land grab, misuse of MPLAD fund and running a country liquor shop against wishes of women of the area concerned, the BJP raised several questions.

The party circulated photocopies of a DNA report “Now a land Grab haunts Pratibha”, to claim that independent investigations by the media have completely exposed the Congress led UPA candidate. “It’s clear from the newspaper report that there has been an apparent misuse of MPLAD by Pratibha Patil. She can not escape from moral and legal responsibilities”, BJP spokesman Prakash Javdekar said.

The party has also unearthed some more details on the financial irregularities that were committed by Pratibha Mahila Cooperative bank, which had Pratibha Patil as founder chairperson.

“Will she deny that she was founder chairperson of the bank and that the RBI cancelled license of the bank. Is it not true that she was on Board of the bank on November 19, 1990 when a resolution to give loans to her close relatives was passed? Was Pratibha Patil not authorised on June 22, 2003 to appoint an administrator for the bank?” it asked

NDA ally, Shetkari Sanghatana, charged Patil projected as a messiah of women empowerment “She in fact has a history of oppressing women”.

The Sanghatana, which has been running a campaign against liquor shops in Maharastra, said Pratibha Patil’s brother-in-law Vijaysingh Shekhawat runs a country liquor shop in Khallar, Daryapur. Maharastra, which  has a law that if 50 per cent women of an area sign a written statement against a liquor shop, then that shop must be shut. It charged that Pratibha Patil used “her political clout to keep liquor shop going, by taking strong police action against women legitimately protesting against the liquor shop.” One wonders what kind of justice she would provide to the women.”
