Kalam’s certificates, awards and gifts have been put on display in the museum

NEW DELHI: In a serene corner of the Cantonment area of the Capital city, a hi-tech museum has taken shape to celebrate the outgoing president APJ Abdul Kalam’s achievements. It not only showcases his certificates, awards and achievements, but is also among the country’s most modern museums.

It also boasts of the country’s first moving holographic images, probably the tallest moving hologram in Asia. DNA was given the first and exclusive preview of the museum housed in the Brahmos Missile Complex, a biometric-controlled building where the Indo-Russian joint venture that makes the supersonic cruise missile is headquartered.

The ‘Mission of Life’ museum was inaugurated late last month by the President himself in an unannounced ceremony, but is yet to be opened to the public. Complete with the original Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan awarded to Kalam, and his numerous other awards, the museum also contains the original 27 doctorates that Kalam was awarded by various universities. At the entrance to the museum are a few brush strokes that clearly capture Kalam’s trademark hairstyle.

The museum is intended to be an inspirational centre for children “to learn to dream, to learn from the life of a child from a poor family who went on to became the President of India,” says an official from the Brahmos Corporation. There are also several dozen mementos and gifts that Kalam received around the world including a mark sheet of Mahatma Gandhi gifted by Bapu's old school.
