Fed up with complaints of large scale corruption among civic officials at octroi nakas, the BMC has decided to transfer a few. Declaring a major administrative reform, additional municipal commissioner Manu Kumar Srivastava assured the general body on Thursday that many officials, including some senior ones will be transferred in a fortnight.

Srivastava spoke after councillors supported an adjournment motion by BJP leader Bhalchandra Shirsat over the delay in submitting a report on the attack on party’s councillor Manoj Kotak at Mulund toll naka. BJP had alleged involvement of BMC Vigilance staff.

The administration, which drew flak from councillors for the delay and attempts of shielding their employees, said the enquiry was underway. Claiming that the agents at the nakas were running a mafia network at the nakas, councillors demanded cancellation of their licenses. Srivastava said the agent system will be systematically scrapped.
