Three members of the Rajani family, who committed suicide at a desolate place near Thane, took the extreme step as they were fed up of the illnesses they were suffering from, namely obesity and asthma.

Rafique, Sadira and their daughter Tamanna Rajani were residents of the plush Kanakia Spaces Complex in Thane and their neighbour M Parelkar had seen them leaving the building in their car at around 3 pm on Tuesday.

Police came to know of the suicide from residents of Upsaborivali village who found the bodies near Padgha in the evening.

“Rafique was doing well in his business, but his main worry was the illnesses that the entire family suffered from” said a Padgha police official.

Rafique’s mother Rahmat Bano who stays at Mumbra told police that Rafique, Sadira and their daughter suffered from asthma and were obese. “Rafique and Sadira, who  suffered from high blood pressure, had spent a lot for treatment, but to no avail. Rafigue and Sadira’ weight was around 130 kilograms while the 18-year-old Tamanna weighed nearly 100 kg,” said Bano.

“Tamannna suffered from severe asthma which she inherited from her parents since eleven years of age and despite of being a very bright student her illness, the disease was an obstacle,” added Bano, who claimed the three bodies for the last rites to be performed.
