Former union minister of state for Railways Ram Naik on Wednesday demanded that the Ministry of Railways build a memorial in memory of the 187 commuters who died in the 7/11 serial bomb blasts in suburban local trains last year. “Like the Canadian government, which recently constructed a memorial in Toronto in homage to the 329 passengers who perished in the June 1985 Air India’s Kanishka air disaster, the Railways should build a similar structure here,” Naik said.

The BJP leader argued that such a memorial should be built in the premises of the Western Railway headquarters at Churchgate, so that people along with families of the terror attack victims can pay their respects. Apart from keeping alive the memories of the deceased, such a memorial would be symbolic of a condemnation of the terrorist attack, he added.

Naik stated that even after almost a year after the 7/11 serial train blasts many families of the 187 dead and 890
injured victims are yet to get government compensation.
