RAIPUR: Two Class 10 students have been arrested for allegedly abducting their classmate and stabbing him to death in Chhattisgarh's industrial city of Bhilai, police said on Wednesday.

On June 21, Shashank and Vicky, both 16 years old, asked their close friend, 17-year-old Hirendra, to come to a house under construction on the pretext that they wanted to talk about a sports event.

Shashank and Vicky allegedly abducted Hirendra so that they could demand ransom from Hirendra's father, said Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Mishra.

"Both Shashank and Vicky stoned and stabbed Hirendra to death within half an hour of abducting him," Mishra alleged. "The accused then wrapped the body in a bag and dumped it in a closed factory area in Bhilai."

Even after the murder, Shashank and Vicky kept calling Hirendra's father to demand ransom, the police officer said. In the first call on June 22, they reportedly asked for Rs. 50 million. After repeated calls, they struck a deal for Rs. 50,000 to free Hirendra, according to Mishra.

"Police were recording all phone calls made on the landline number of the kidnapped boy's house and the accused were arrested late Tuesday when they were receiving ransom amount from Hirendra's father at a deserted house," Mishra said.

Police recovered the decomposed body Tuesday from Bhilai, located 30 km west of the state capital Raipur. The body was brought here for a post-mortem examination at Raipur Medical College.
