SRINAGAR: Normal life in Srinagar and other towns of the valley was partially affected due to a bandh call, given by a radical militant outfit to protest the conferring of Knighthood to India-borne author Salman Rushdie by Britain.

The bandh remained partial as transport plied normally on all routes and work in government offices, educational institutions and banks remained unaffected, officials sources said.

However, shops and business establishments remained closed in response to the call given by radical militant outfit Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen and supported by almost all militant outfits and separatist organisations.

The bandh was called in protest of conferring of Knighthood to Rushdie, whose novel "Satanic Verses" outraged muslims across the world and even a Fatwa was issued for his assassination.
