After cabinet Secretary, UP creates post of Special DGP

LUCKNOW: After creating history by appointing a Cabinet Secretary in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday brought into existence another new post of Special Director General of Police.

The 1974 batch IPS officer, Vikram Singh became the first incumbent to the new post of Special Director General of Police (Law and Order and Crime Control), State Home Secretary, Javed Ahmed said.

Singh, on deputation to the Centre, was called back on a special request by the Mayawati government, official sources said.

The reasons cited for creating such a post were that it would result in better control of crime and maintain law and order in a big state like UP.

Shashank Shekher Singh was appointed as the first cabinet secretary to a state soon after Mayawati took over the reins of power in Uttar Pradesh on May 13. The post was created in addition to that of existing Chief Sectretary.
