A tourist from London has lodged a complaint with the Colaba police station, stating that she was reportedly molested in a saloon in Colaba on Saturday afternoon.

The tourist, a woman (whose name has been withheld to protect her identity) told the police that she was staying in a hotel in South Mumbai and had gone to Gateway of India for sightseeing.

On her way back, she wanted to get a hair-cut and entered the Modern hair cutting saloon situated near the Gateway of India.

In her statement, the tourist said that after she entered the saloon, she was asked to undress and then reportedly molested. Based on the information given by the lady, the police have arrested a person called Anees Mohammad Salmani, who works in the saloon.

He has been arrested under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with the offence of assaulting or using criminal force on a woman with the intention of outraging her modesty.

“The accused was produced before the magistrate and has been remanded in police custody for further interrogation,” a police officer from the Colaba police station said. The lady is a teacher by profession in London.
