Six hundred Home Guards and civil defence volunteers along with civic officials from the Disaster Management Cell will help you stay on course during extreme events this monsoon. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has availed the services of the Home Guards and the volunteers for rescue operations in 12 flood prone wards.

Office of State Commandant General of Home Guards has okayed the deputation of 300 guards and 300 civil defence volunteers with the civic body for a period of two months from June 15 to August 15. The rescue efforts carried out by Home Guards personnel was largely appreciated after the 26/7 deluge that swallowed the city. They pitched in for monsoon related disaster management operations last year as well.

BMC’s Disaster Management officials said the guards/volunteers will work in three shifts of eight hours. If required the civic administration could prolong their services and also depute them to other wards. Each volunteer/guard will be paid Rs75 per shift per day.
