BHOPAL: Fifteen people are believed to have succumbed to the heat wave sweeping Madhya Pradesh in the last 20 days, official sources said on Monday. Six bodies were recovered from different parts of Gwalior on Sunday. Since no injuries were noticed on their bodies, they seem to have succumbed to sunstroke, they said.

Four persons were rushed to the district hospital from Dimini area of Morena district but died on the way, Moren officer H S Sharma told PTI. Though no post-mortem was performed, deaths due to heatstroke could not be ruled out, he said.

As mercury continued to soar and crossed 45 degree Celsius in Chambal and Bundelkhand belts, a woman died due to sunstroke in Damoh district, while another succumbed to the heat conditions in Gwalior around two days ago, sources said.

Three deaths were reported due to heatstroke in Gwalior last month, they added.

Hot weather is expected to persist in the state for the next two days, meteorological centre director D P Dubey said.

Monsoon has reached Karnataka and is expected to reach Jharkhand in the next two days, he said, adding pre-monsoon showers might hit eastern Madhya Pradesh, including Jabalpur, Rewa and Sagar divisions shortly.
