For the More family, residents of Yash Apartments in Sector 4, the reality was yet to sink in. However, Nishant’s parents admitted that their son was to be blamed for the incessant quarrels. He had even assaulted his wife on Monday night. Police said whether Nishant wanted to actually commit suicide or just wanted to threaten his wife and family was difficult to say. “The nylon cord used was a thin one. A man intending to commit suicide would have opted for a stout one to ensure that the cord didn’t snap during the act”, a police official said. Perhaps, Nishant had gone too far with the threat, he added.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Nishant More was quarrelsome by nature and used to fight over petty matters. Things came to a boil on Monday night, when Nishant assaulted his wife, Manisha. According to police, Nishant may have just wanted to scare his wife with the threat of suicide, but the thin nylon cord proved fatal. The couple had a four-month old girl.
“More had become quarrelsome and fights between the couple had become a routine affair”, a police official said. More was even counselled by his parents and close relatives on Monday night. They had even advised Manisha not to sleep with her husband. Heeding to them, Manisha spent the night in the drawing room of their flat with her in-laws.
Sometime in the night, Nishant tied a nylon cord to the bedroom ceiling fan and hanged himself.
Police believe the nylon cord used resulted in his death within seconds as the family were clueless about the incident till it came to light when More’s younger brother knocked on the bedroom door to collect his clothes.
When repeated calls failed to elicit a response, More’s brother opened the window of the ground floor flat to find the body hanging. Police have registered a case into the incident.
