More than 20 villages near Badlapur and Ambernath were hit by a hailstorm on Saturday evening which damaged the houses and injured several people. Even after three days of the incident no relief has been provided to the villagers by the government Most of the people residing in these villages are farmers whose farms are located near the Barvi Dam.

More than 200 houses have been damaged out of which 20 to 30 have been destroyed completely. The villagers lost their belongings including other household things as the hailstorm went on for 20 minutes,  followed by heavy rains. The rain lasted for two hours making it difficult for the villagers to save their belongings after their houses were damaged.

“I was sleeping when the hailstorm hit the village. My children and wife were at home too. Within ten minutes the storm brought down the roof and walls of my house injuring me and my children” said Suresh Rane, resident of Eranjad village. He further added “Many government officials and leaders visited the village after that but till date no help has been provided, we are surviving with the help of few other villagers.”

Dhenarpada, Eranjad, Ambeshiv, Doke dativli, Lavali and five to six other villages have suffered heavy losses due to the hailstorm. “When our village had submerged in water during the 26/7 floods government officials helped us by providing food, clothing and Rs5000 to each affected family but this time they are busy carrying with other formalities.” said Gajanan Meher.

MLA Kisan Kathore told DNA, “I have already spoken to the Thane district collector about the problem and am planning to help the people through the Gharkul Scheme of the State Government. Many villages affected by the hailstorm fall under the urban area and some fall in the rural regionand can be helped through different schemes. I have surveyed the affected villages and will see that help is provided to the affected villagers soon. The panchnama has been carried out after which the number of affected families and the losses suffered by them will be clear.”
