Woolmer saga: Sheshaiah, Shields in mess

LONDON/KINGSTON:  India-born pathologist Dr Ere Seshaiah, who concluded that Bob Woolmer was strangled, may lose his job as Jamaican police get ready to admit that the cricket coach died of natural reasons, said the British media.

Seshaiah's position as a government pathologist seems to be in jeopardy after a review of his autopsy by a senior Home Office pathologist in London concluded he was wrong to suggest Woolmer was strangled, according to the Daily Mail.

After receiving the report from Seshaiah, who got the job at the Jamaican capital Kingston 12 years ago, deputy police commissioner Mark Shields had announced that Woolmer was murdered at his hotel room.

The bungle in investigations has put Shields in the firing line and some Jamaican officers are saying privately that he is about to quit, the paper said.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer in Jamaica close to the investigation has also confirmed that Woolmer was not murdered.

"Certainly, in my view it was not murder," the officer told the Jamaican Gleaner.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) are likely to get the third pathology report next week, which is expected to confirm the second report given by British pathologist Dr Nat Carey.

But, the JCF will not issue any official statement before receiving the final toxicology results and the third pathology report, the paper said.
