Two al-Badr militants identified as Abdul Rashid Bhat and his Pak associate Rehan alias Tahir were killed in a gun battle at Wuyan-Khrew.
SRINAGAR: Two al-Badr militants, including a Pakistani national, were killed in a gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir, where an overground worker of Hizbul Mujahideen was arrested and a huge cache of explosives seized since Saturday night.
Two al-Badr militants identified as Abdul Rashid Bhat and his Pakistani associate Rehan alias Tahir were killed in a gun battle lasting nearly 10 hours at Wuyan-Khrew in Pulwama district on Sunday, a police spokesman said.
The encounter broke out in the early hours of the day when troops of Rashtriya Rifles along with a police party launched a search operation in the village following information about presence of militants, the spokesman said.
He said two residential houses, where the militants had taken shelter, were damaged in the encounter. Two AK assault rifles and some ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
An overground worker of Hizbul Mujahideen, Azad Ahmad Bhat, was arrested by a patrolling party of 30 RR from Handwara area of Kupawara district, the spokesman said.
A resident of Shot-Gund Payeen, Bhat is the associate of a dreaded Hizbul militant Mushtaq Ahmed Malla, he said adding, two UBGL grenades have been recovered from his possession.
A defence spokesman said troops of five Rashtriya Rifles recovered 100 kg of explosives, 10 hand-grenades, some UBGL grenades, detonators and 217 rounds of AK ammunition from a field at Kaubagh in Ganderbal district on Saturday night.
Police also busted a militant hideout in Guzrial forests in Trehgam belt of Kupwara district, but no weapons were found there, the spokesman said.
