NEW DELHI: Scores of Gurjars on Wednesday took to the streets here to protest police firing on a demonstration by community members in Rajasthan who were demanding Scheduled Tribe status for them.

The protestors blocked roads in Khajoori Khas locality of northeast Delhi, leading to minor traffic snarls, on Wednesday morning and burnt the effigies of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

Shouting anti-Raje slogans, the demonstrators also set afire tyres in the middle of the road. Police, however, said the demonstration was peaceful and protestors dispersed after sometime.

At least 13 people, including a policeman, were killed and nearly 100 injured in clashes and police firing in three districts of Rajasthan during protests by the Gurjars on the quota issue on Tuesday.
