CUTTACK: Rajasthan police on Monday failed to arrest senior Orissa police official B B Mohanty, accused of helping his son convicted of rape jump the parole, as it could not trace him here.

A four-member Rajasthan police team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mukund Bihari, searched for Mohanty, who has gone on medical leave, at his office, at the SCB Medical College Hospital and at his official residence.

''We could not trace Mohanty in all these places,'' Bihari said.

The team visited the DGP's office where they were told that Mohanty was suffering from blood dysentery and was on medical leave for five days since Sunday.

The police team then headed for the SCB Medical College Hospital where he had been supposedly admitted for treatment.

The policemen were told at the hospital that it was not easy to say whether Mohanty was admitted at any ward or not immediately.

''We would let the local police station know as to whether Mohanty has been admitted to the hospital or not by evening,'' said hospital Superintendent Prof. N K Balabantray.

Virendra Jakhar, the SHO of Lalkothi police station in Jaipur, searched for Mohanty at one of the wards suspecting that the police officer might have come to undergo colonoscopy there.

Mohanty is sought by Rajasthan police for allegedly helping his son Bittihotra, convicted for raping a German woman in the desert state, to jump the parole and go missing six months ago.
