CHANDIGARH: Top Sikh clerics will meet on Tuesday in Amritsar to decide the future course of action in the wake of an apology tendered by the Dera Sacha Sauda chief even as police remained on high alert across the state on Monday.

Senior police officers reviewed the law and order at regular intervals as security around religious shrines and Sirsa-based sect's centres in the state was further beefed up.

The police force would remain on maximum alert till June six, the anniversary of Operation Blue Star, official sources said.

Police and para-military personnel would continue flag marches in the state to instill a sense of security among the people, especially those living in rural areas, DIG Ishwar Singh said.

"Besides, the security around Gurdwaras, temples and sect's Deras, including the one at Salabatpura in Bhatinda district, has been further strengthened," he said.

Meanhwile, the Sikh clergy will meet on Tuesday in holy city Amritsar to decide the course of action in the light of apology tendered by Dera chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Akal Takhat Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti said the High Priests would discuss the matter at their meeting on Tuesday.

The Dera chief, in conflict with the Sikh clergy, had tendered an apology for dressing like Guru Gobind Singh on Sunday night.

Vedanti said he came to know about the apology only through the media.

Akal Takht, the supreme temporal body of Sikhs, had not received any letter or draft from the sect containing the apology, he said.

In view of media reports regarding the apology, a meeting of Sikh clergy had been summoned on Tuesday afternoon, Vedanti said.

All issues, including the apology, would be discussed and future course of action decided at the meeting, he said.

Vedanti said resolutions passed by the Sikh clergy on May 20 would stand unless new decisions were taken at the meeting.

As per earlier resolutions, he said, a protest march would be taken out on May 31 from district Fatehgarh Sahib to Chandigarh to submit memoranda to Governors of Punjab and Haryana against Dera chief's alleged blasphemous act.

Security forces were maintaining a strict and constant vigil at the headquarters of the Dera Sacha Sauda in Sirsa in Haryana.

Haryana Police chief R S Dalal had requested the Centre to keep para-military forces in the state till June 10.

"Haryana Police and para-military forces are on high alert in the state," he said.
