KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday claimed it has received strong response to its invitation for the coaching job and hopes to name a successor to the late Bob Woolmer by July.

"We have received 13 applications so far. They include Pakistani as well as foreign coaches. There are important people among the foreign coaches from England, as well as Australia," PCB Chairman Nasim Ashraf said at a press conference in Islamabad.

Dav Whatmore, who is in contention to be the next India coach, was in the race for the job in Pakistan as well till he made himself unavailable.

Although Ashraf said that nationality would not be a criterion, the profile he gave left hardly any doubt about what the PCB wanted.

"More important than whether it is a foreign coach or a domestic coach, it is the criteria of a coach that we are looking for," he said.

"We need a highly educated, young, skilled coach who should be very much computer literate."

Ashraf refused to disclose the names of the 13 applicants but said a final decision would be made by July 1.

The appointment will be for a period of two years which can be extended depending on performance.
