Maninder Singh arrested for possessing drugs

Former cricketer Maninder Singh has been reportedly arrested from his Preeet Vihar residence in the capital.

NEW DELHI: Former Test cricketer Maninder Singh was arrested on Tuesday from his residence in East Delhi on the charge of possessing cocaine.

Around 1.5 grams of the contraband was found in his possession at the time of his arrest by the narcotics department of Delhi Police on Tuesday morning, a senior police official said.

A suspected drug peddler, identified as Sayam Siddique, who was with 41-year-old Singh when the police raided his house in Defence Enclave in Preet Vihar locality, was also arrested.

A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances Act was registered against Maninder, the left arm spinner, who played for India in the 1980s.

Singh's arrest from his apartment came on the basis of a tip off, the official said.

He is now at the Chhattarpur office of the Narcotics branch of Delhi Police.

Maninder played in 35 Tests getting 88 wickets and 59 ODIs taking 66 scalps.
