JAMTARA/JHARKHAND: A senior Jharkhand police official on Monday claimed that the West Bengal police had picked up a man from Mihijam in Jamtara for questioning in connection with the Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad, but later let him off.

"The man, Mohammad Sahid was picked up by the West Bengal police on Saturday in Mihijam for interrogation in Kolkata. He was later let off," Jamtara Superintendent of Police Hemant Toppo said.

The police officer said that Sahid who had a retail sim card shop in Mihijam had sold a sim card to a taxi driver, Babulal Yadav of Roopnarayanpur in West Bengal a year and a half ago.

The taxi driver had given a copy of his driving licence as proof of identity for purchasing the sim, which was one of the recoveries made from the blast site in Hyderabad, he said.

Sahid was yet to return home after being let off, Toppo said.

Meanwhile, in Kolkta, IG (Law and Order), Raj Kanojia denied that the state police had picked up anyone.

"We have neither detained nor arrested anyone in connection with the Hyderbad blast."
