Cocaine worth Rs36 lakh seized

Eight people including two Nigerians held; police also recover a car and Rs 52,000 in cash

Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai police busted a drug trafficking racket by arresting eight people including two Nigerians on the charges of attempting to sell cocaine at Oshiwara on early Saturday. Twenty four gms of cocaine valued at Rs 36 lakh in the international market was seized from those arrested. The accused were identified as Dhiren Balbir Singh, 60, Mohd Riyaz, 25, Indrakant Das, 33, Sanjay Mata, 38, and husband-wife duo – Abhinav Sinha, 26, and Tabasum. The two Nigerians were identified as Verunika alias Tina alias Stela Lucky, 25, and Daniel Okeke, 26.

Interestingly, Tabasum had her two-year-old son Kaif when the police raided the place. The police team also recovered a Hyundai Accent valued at Rs 4 lakh and cash totalling to Rs 52,000. The seized car belonged to Abhinav Sinha. All the eight accused were arrested under sections 8 (c) read with 21 and 29 of  NDPS Act, 1985 and remanded in police custody till May 25, by the additional chief metropolitan magistrate’s court at Esplanade on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anti-Narcotics Cell) said, “Acting on a tip-off, a police team comprising PSI GT Shinde laid a trap at Kailash Vasantrao Shinde Chowk at Oshiwara at around 5 am and nabbed eight people who had come to sell the drug. During the course of investigation, police found out that Tabasum looked after the financial dealings in the drug sales and found customers.” The police team also recovered cash totalling to Rs 40,000 from Tabasum.
