CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee President Avtar Singh Makkar on Sunday night said various Sikh organisations and institutions would follow the 'hukamnama' (religious edict) issued by the Sikh high priests.

He said the five high priests had consulted various Sikh organisations and only after that the 'hukamnama' was formulated.

"All the organisations have agreed to it," he said adding, there would be total peace in the state, as no Sikh would violate the edict.

Makkar said the high priests have also stressed on maintaining peace during the Punjab bandh on Tuesday.

An emergency meeting of SGPC Executive Committee would be held in Amritsar on May 23 to discuss the prevailing situation, he said adding, a meeting of leaders of all religions would be organised by SGPC at Delhi on Monday.

On submitting of memoranda to Governors of Punjab and Haryana, Makkar said after a protest march from Fatehgarh Sahab to Chandigarh, an 11-member delegation led by him would meet the Governors to give the memoranda.

He said representations to the President, the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister for speeding up the CBI probe against Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Sant Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh in connection with the murder of a Sirsa journalist would be given after taking appointment from them.

Daljit Singh Cheema, Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister, said that all Sikh organisations would follow the edict since various bodies had been consulted before the meeting of the high priests. All the Sikh organisations were for peace in the state, he added.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up at the Sacha Sauda Dera near Salabatpura, some 55 kms from Bhatinda.

The district administration, already on high alert, had further tightened security at the Dera, the biggest in Punjab.

Personnel of Rapid Action Force, Border Security Force and Punjab Police had been deployed in the district to maintain peace, official sources said.
