SGPC men scuffle with mediapersons, thrash policeman

AMRITSAR: A policeman carrying a gun was beaten up by SGPC workers who also had a scuffle with mediapersons near the venue of the crucial meeting of Sikh high priests inside the Golden Temple complex on Sunday.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Lakhbir Singh faced the wrath of the SGPC task force when he allegedly tried to sneak into the meeting area in the Akal Takht premises, official sources said.

The ASI received injuries on various parts of his body but was out of danger, the sources said.

The SGPC workers also had a scuffle with some mediapersons, especially from the electronic channels, as they tried to go near the venue, the sources said.

The crucial meeting of the Sikh clergy, headed by Akal Takht Jathedar Gyani Joginder Singh Vedanti, is to decide the future course of action in the standoff between the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda and Sikh groups.

The revolver of the ASI fell down when the meeting of the Sikh clergy was on.

This provoked SGPC workers who thrashed the policeman who was in mufti.

The scuffle with mediapersons took place when some of them were clicking photographs.
