Internet blackmailer nabbed in Mysore

MYSORE: A youth from Hyderabad has been arrested by the city police on charges of blackmailing women and indulging in extortion to the tune of lakhs of rupees from those who fell into his trap through internet chatting.

Thirty-year-old Neeraj Vaidya was picked up by a special team in Hyderabad yesterday, police said on Sunday.

The accused, a tech savy, used to befriend women during on-line chatting, get their personal details including that of their family.

Later he used to threaten them by mobile phone or send messages that if they don't pay him, he would post their photo and details on porn web sites.

One of his victims, unable to meet his extortion demands, disclosed it to family members, who lodged a complaint with the police.

The police constituted a special team which managed to trace Vaidya to Hyderabad and arrested him.

Rs 1.65 lakh cash, a laptop and a mobile phone was seized from Vaidya, who has been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
