After many years, Mumbai’s boys have stolen the thunder. The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) results announced on Saturday showed boys coming out tops in the city, reversing the national trend where girls still hold sway with a pass percentage of 98.53 per cent compared to 97.5 per cent among the boys.

All three top spots in Class X were bagged by boys this year, with the highest score of 97.60 per cent being achieved by Aniruddh Padia of Maneckjee Cooper School, Juhu.
This betters last year’s topper Shefali Parekh’s achievement of 96.66 by nearly one per cent. Tejas Naphade of Poddar School, Santa Cruz, grabbed second spot with 97.43 per cent, while Sankalp Kelshikar of Sulochanadevi Singhania School completed the boys-only list with 97.30 per cent.

“Surprisingly, boys in Mumbai have done far better than girls this year, scoring well in computers, maths and science. Following the time-honoured tradition, girls have done well in languages and arts,” said Lalitha Rajgopal, senior academic co-ordinator, Garodia International School . “But nowadays, girls are also scoring 100/100 in maths, so soon they’ll be at par with boys in technical subjects,” she added.

However, girls maintained their dominance in the Indian Secondary Certificate (ISC) results, outclassing the boys with an overall pass percentage of 96.96. In Mumbai, Sana Suri from Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane topped with 96.60 per cent.
