ISLAMABAD: Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has written an open letter to the members of the US congress saying that the largest democracy on the earth should stop backing a ruthless military dictator who was hand in glove with a terrorist organisation like the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and killing innocent Sindhis, Punjab, Pushtoons and Balochis in Karachi just because of his ethnic connection with the Mohajir party.

Pakistan President General Musharraf had warned on Friday against giving an ethnic colour to the May 12 carnage in Karachi, allegedly carried out by the MQM. The letter which highlights the Karachi massacre that left 42 people dead, says that the killings of innocent people were carried out on the orders of Musharraf as part of a pre-planned conspiracy to sabotage the Karachi visit of the suspended chief justice Iftikar Chaudhry.

The letter says that the people of Pakistan are fed up with the present American administration’s policy of backing a military dictator who is working together with a proven terrorist organisation like the MQM and its chief Altaf Hussain, who has been living like a king in self exile in the UK, while his fascist party is busy killing innocent people.

Imran states, “I, on behalf of the people of Pakistan, question the justification of the US for backing a callous military dictator under the doctrine of necessity and in violation of principles of democracy, civil liberty and objectives of the war on terror. The Tehrik-e-Insaaf demands that Washington should stop supporting the illegitimate government in Islamabad led by Musharraf.” He further writes, “I have already directed the UK chapter of Tehrik-e-Insaaf to write a letter to the British MPs and question the justification of their patronage to MQM chief Altaf Hussain, who is allegedly wanted in a number of murder and other heinous cases in Pakistan”.

The letter says that May 12 will be marked as a black day in the history of Pakistan. “The whole metropolis of Karachi was handed over to MQM workers by the administration. The brutal acts of terrorism were committed by the MQM as it had a green signal from the federal and provincial governments. It was shameful, outrageous and appalling to see the MQM workers freely display and use lethal weapons against their political rivals while the police and army rangers remained silent spectators.”
