Fraudsters open credit card account in DGP's name

BANGALORE: The Director General of Police (Fire Service) Karnataka recently fell victim to a credit card fraud as she was asked to pay for some purchases which she had not done.

Jija Harisingh, DGP (Fire Services) received a statement from Vijaya Bank asking her to pay for purchases made by her in Malaysia between March and April, police said.

Jija, who lodged a complaint with the local police, said that she was very much in India during the stated period and had made no purchases nor had opened the said credit card account, as mentioned by the bank authorities.

According to the bank authorities, Jija had been issued a global card and the fraudsters had made a counterfeit copy of the card and misused it.

Investigations revealed that these persons had used the card in Malaysia for making huge purchases to the tune of Rs 82,000.
