MATHURA: Security was on Friday beefed up in and around this temple town in Uttar Pradesh following a blast in a Hyderabad mosque that killed at least five persons.

District Superintendent of Police R K Chaturvedi said since terrorists have been targeting places of worship of late, security has been tightened around the religious places of Mathura.

"While checking has been started in 'Yellow Zone' area at the two shrines of Sri Krishna Janmasthan, special vigil is being maintained in Goverdhan town where month-long Purusottam Maas fair has started. Police men in plain clothes have also been posted at strategic points," Chaturvedi said.

Security has been tightened at Bankey Behari, Dwarkadheesh and Krishna Balaram temples also, he said.
