MUMBAI: A team from Maharashtra's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is likely to be sent to Hyderabad to study the blast that killed five people at the historic Mecca mosque in that city on Friday.

"A team led by an additional commissioner of police and having some of our officers is expected to leave for Hyderabad to study the situation," ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi said.

A final decision on sending the team is expected to be taken on Friday evening and the tension in Hyderabad will be taken into consideration before the ATS team starts from Mumbai, he said.

The ATS, which claims to have cracked the case related to the July 11 serial blasts on commuter trains here, had also sent a team to probe the explosion on the Samjhauta Express in Haryana in February.

"As a practice, we send our men to make an on-the-spot study of any blasts wherever there is a sabotage angle," Raghuvanshi said.
