NEW DELHI: With bookings for Spiderman movie going full, it seems like he has indeed cast his web on children who were eager to enjoy the hot summer ahead. And, it is not only Spiderman who is casting his web, but likes of Shrek and Captain Jack Sparrow too have planned to imitate Spiderman with both Shrek 3 and Pirates of the Carribean looking all set to woo the children in the coming weeks.

If Hindi cinema is taken into account, the eagerly awaited film Tara Rum Pum was also aimed at children and the summer vacations.

"The market for films and programmes made for children is very huge. Plus, with the summer holiday coming up, everybody wants to do their bit to make the children have fun," says Nina Elavia, Vice President, Nick India.

So, what is it with these comic books driven movies that not only attracts children but grown ups too?

"I grew up reading all the comic books like He Man and Spiderman along with Archies. So, to see the very same characters come alive on large screen is amazing," says Shubhra Sharma, a management student.

If multiplexes are to be believed, movies such as cartoon or comic book inspired like Spiderman, Cars, Happy Feat have seen an equal crowd of children as well as grownups.

"Everyone likes to go out and watch a nice movie. The children have read about it and have created an image of the characters in their mind. So, when movies based on their favourite characters hit the screens, they are all eager to find out whether their imagination would match the reel character or not," says Prathana Eashwar, Inox Multiplex, Chennai.

While pointing out that, children are the main reason for bringing in adults, Gautam Datta, PVR Cinemas points out, "Children have high pestering power and moreover usually no one sends children to go and watch movie alone. Hence, the kid has to be accompanied by someone which at times become like a complete family outing."

But, then not all comic books driven or cartoon movies have done well. Movies such as Catwomen, Hulk and Phantom have not been really able to make an impact as they would have liked it to be.

"The reason being that Indian kids are still coming in terms with English. Hence, movies, which are visually, oriented movie that has lot of special effects. Even Krrish, which was not a comic hero did well because the children were able to relate to the special effects," says Datta.

In some cases, movies have resulted in creation of comic book characters like in the case of Krrish, Star Wars series and Jurassic Parks. Even, the alien, Jadoo stole the limelight from Hrithik Roshan in movie, Koi Mil Gaya.

"Children movies are not just limited to children. Even, though as a child I have never read these character comics, I still enjoy watching them," says Alice Thomas, MA student, Hyderabad.

"Children movies are always a fun to watch. It does not have any elements that one might dislike in other movies. It is thus a complete family movie," says Eashwar.

So with, Shrek 3 and Pirates of the Carribean all set to be screened in the coming days, it's not only the kids but also the adults who would be nudging for the tickets.
