ISLAMABAD: A day after the killing of the Taliban military chief Mullah Dadullah in Afghanistan by the coalition forces, an American and a Pakistan soldier were killed while six others injured when unidentified militants ambushed a convoy of the ISAF soldiers in the Teri Mangal town of Pakistan in the Kurram agency on the Pak-Afghan border on Monday. The soldiers were returning to their respective posts after attending a flag meeting of the ISAF forces stationed in Afghanistan.

According to Pakistan’s military spokesman Major General Arshad Waheed, the convoy of the Pakistani and American soldiers was fired upon by some “Taliban backed miscreants” while it was returning after attending an important meeting of Pakistani, American and Afghan military officials in the northwestern town of Teri Mangal.

He said the border meeting was held to discuss the Sunday clashes between the Afghan and the Pakistani border security forces which killed at least ten Afghan soldiers. He denied the Indian media reports that a US soldiers was killed and several others injured after being shot by a Pakistani soldiers after the border meeting which was held in Parachenar area of the Pakistani side of the Afghan border, attended by several high ranking American, Pakistani as well as Afghan officials.

The military spokesman said that the killing of the US soldier and the subsequent blame game seem to be an attempt by some vested interests to create misunderstandings between the two partners in the war against terror. He said the incident might be a reaction to the killing of Mullah Dadullah, who was described by the American military officials as the Zarqawi of Afghanistan.

Dadullah was the third and the most important member of the Taliban “Rahbari Shura” (Leadership Council) to have been killed in US-led military operations in Afghanistan, thus raising questions about whether the militants’ long-promised spring offensive in Afghanistan will happen this year.
