MUMBAI: Four government officials were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while allegedly accepting bribe in different cases, ACB sources said.

Those arrested include a senior official with the PWD, an entertainment tax inspector, a clerk and a junior engineer working with the civic body.

Viniti S Kanade was arrested from her office in Central Mumbai for accepting Rs 5,000 from Bombay High Court staffer Santosh Mohite for allegedly changing the title of a flat in Worli's BDD Chawl, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ACB) Vilas Tupe said.

Mohite was trying to change the title of a flat owned by his deceased grandmother in his name for the last 13 years.

Kanade (57), was due to retire from service in two months time, he said.

Entertainment tax inspector Naresh Birwadkar was arrested along with Hemant Kubal, a clerk in the same department for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a cable operator in their office situated in suburban Mulund today.

Birwadkar had asked for a bribe of Rs 1,000 per month starting January 2007 from one Dhopte, who runs a cable business, failing which he would be served with a notice for understating the number of his connections, he said.

"The amount was negotiated to Rs 4,000 and the duo arrested," Tupe said.

Meanwhile, the ACB on Saturday arrested Junior Engineer Amol Bhalekar for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a gym owner in the north west suburb of Dahisar.

The gym owner had purchased two commercial establishments and broken the wall between to start renovation work. Bhalekar threatened to take action against the renovation for being "illegal" and asked for the bribe, Tupe said.
