NEW DELHI: Film stars are usually adept at enticing voters with their dialogues but have failed to make creditable performances after being elected to Parliament.

Contrary to promises made after he won in the election from Bikaner in Rajasthan in 2004, Dharmendra has participated in only 61 of 218 sittings of the Lok Sabha since then. Moreover, he neither participated in any discussion nor raised any issue in the House during the sittings he attended.

Sholay's Viru and Basanti aka Dharmendra and his wife Hema Malini were elected to the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

Govinda, popularly known as Chi Chi, won mass support on a Congress ticket to defeat BJP stalwart Ram Naik in the North Mumbai seat in 2004.

However, the unexpected win does not seem to have kindled the dancing star's interest in the proceedings of the House.

He attended only 34 sittings during the last nine sessions of the Lok Sabha.

Govinda once raised the issue of people living in Mumbai's slums in Parliament through a special mention.

However, he has since then not taken up any other matter, apparently giving the cold shoulder to problems faced by his constituents.

Stars like Vinod Khanna, Raj Babbar and Jayaprada do not have good record to their credit either.

Their counterparts in the Upper House are apparently more active.

Jaya Bachahan alone has asked 205 written questions and raised eight issues through special mention and has brought two non-governmental bills.

'The Indian Nightingale' Lata Mangeshkar did not seem to be comfortable with the notes of politics and hence remained absent from the 205th session of Rajya Sabha.

Tragedian Dileep Kumar set foot in the Parliament four times. The term of both of these legendary artistes has already ended.

Bihari babu Shatrughan Sinha remained in news for his verbal duel with Big B rather than his Parliamentarian skills where he attended 78 sittings and raised 184 questions. But Sinha did not participate in any discussion or debate in the House.

Making debut in Rajya Sabha, Bollywood director Shyam Benegal did raise the matter of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose vehemently. And since then, no other issue could draw his attention.
