Woman seeks President's permission for abortion

A woman has sought the permission of President for abortion as she had conceived despite adopting family planning measures.

JAIPUR: A woman from  Jalore district in Rajasthan  has sought the permission of President APJ Abdul Kalam for  termination of her pregnancy as she had conceived despite adopting family planning measures.

Bhuridevi, a mother of three, of Rajikawas village submitted a letter to the  Sub Divisional Officer seeking the permission of the President for termination her three months old pregnancy as she could not afford another child.

She said she underwent tubectomy in the government hospital at Jaswantpura on January 8 this year. She pointed out that  she has conceived again due to the failure of doctors who conducted the operation. 

The woman, in the letter, said either she be permitted to undergo abortion of her three months foetus or the government give an undertaking that  it will bear the entire expense of the child.

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Jalore Dr Kishan Singh Rathore said, "There is a provision of Rs25,000 insurance cover against failure of the  family planning method".

He added, "whether the woman has the option of abortion open could be  assertained only after examining her and the state of pregnancy."
