MUMBAI: A court on Friday granted bail to Udayan Maharaj, a self-styled godman, who was arrested for allegedly attempting to murder a property developer.

Additional Sessions Judge P D Vishwasrao granted bail to Maharaj on condition of depositing Rs 25,000.

Maharaj is accused of allegedly paying contract money to four hitmen of Chhota Rajan gang to eliminate builder Rashmikant Shah.

According to the police case, Maharaj had paid the gangsters Rs 12.5 lakh as advance from the promised amount.

Maharaj along with R R Chaturvedi of Sreepati Builders had allegedly conspired to kill Shah out of business rivalry.

Maharaj was Chaturvedi's frontman, dealing with residents of Abhyudaya Nagar in Kalachowki here, to win the area's redevelopment project in favour of Sreepati Builders.

But the Rs 500-crore project was bagged by Shah's Vijay Group.
