HDFC Q4 net profit rises 29% to Rs 550 crore

MUMBAI: Housing finance company HDFC on Thursday reported 29 per cent jump in net profit to Rs550.05 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, as compared to Rs426.52 crore for the same quarter a year ago.

Total income of the company also rose by nearly 40 per cent to Rs1,732.95 crore for the January-March quarter as against Rs1,239.90 crore for the corresponding three month period in 2006, Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) informed the BSE.

Earnings per share (basic) stood at Rs 21.91 at the end of quarter as compared to Rs17.05 in the same period last year, a statement said.

The results for the year ended March 31 show that the company posted a net profit of Rs1,570.38 crore as compared to Rs1,257.30 crore for the year ended March 31, 2006.

Total income on annual basis increased to Rs5,896.26 crore for the year ended March 31 as against Rs4,278.39 crore in 2006, it added.

“Approvals for the year ended March 31, 2007, aggregated to Rs33,332 crore as compared to Rs25,634 crore during the previous year - representing an increase of 30 per cent," the company said in a statement.

Disbursements were pegged at Rs 26,718 crore for the year, as against Rs 20,679 crore last year - a growth of 27 per cent, it added.

HDFC's loan portfolio inclusive of investment in debentures, pass through certificates, security deposits and inter-corporate deposits for financing real estate projects, also witnessed an increase of 25 per cent at Rs57,988 crore as compared to Rs46,492 crore in the previous year.

Meanwhile, the Board has recommended a dividend of Rs22 per equity share for the fiscal 2006-07 as against Rs20 per share for the previous year.
