'New Al Qaeda' bombs Bangladesh railway stations

DHAKA: Three simultaneous explosions shook separate railway stations across Bangladesh on Tuesday, including one in the capital Dhaka, leaving one injured and triggering panic among passengers.

The bombs went off at Dhaka's Kamalapur station, northeastern Sylhet station and southesast Chittagong station.

The explosives were hidden in small cotton bags, security and rail officials said adding the blasts caused panic among rail commuters and terminals were evacuated.

One bystander was injured in the blasts.

Leaflets and inscribed metal plates found at the scene of the explosions said the attack was carried out by the 'new Al Qaeda'.

Messages left in the leaflets and metal plates warned people against working with NGOs and associating with the Ahmadiya sect.

"Stop associating with the nonbelievers. Stop working for NGOs by May 10 or prepare for death," said the message signed by Jadid al Qaeda Bangladesh, an unknown group.

"Ahmadiyas should accept Mohammad as the last and the greatest prophet," it said.
