Police officer arrested by ACB

A police officer was on Friday arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding Rs 20,000 for filing a favourble reply to the complainant's anticipatory bail application in a cheating case.

MUMBAI: A police officer was on Friday arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding Rs 20,000 for filing a favourble reply to the complainant's anticipatory bail application in a cheating case.

Police sub-inspector Harishchandra Dalvi of MIDC police station in north-western suburb of Andheri was arrested for demanding the sum from one Anil Sapale, who is accused of embezzling Rs six lakh worth of foreign exchange, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ACB), Vilas Tupe said.

Sapale works in a foreign exchange firm and his employers had registered a case against him for allegedly embezzling the funds.

He had later moved a local court seeking an anticipatory bail and Dalvi, the detection officer was to file a reply to the same, he added.

The arrest comes within 12-hours of a police sub-inspector from Shivaji Park Police Station being arrested for demanding Rs 10,000 last evening.
