DUBAI: UAE immigration authorities on Tuesday deported 39 Indians, a day after they arrived here on fake visas looking for jobs.

Officials sources said the 39 men, who had come from Delhi by an Indian Airlines flight on Monday morning, were detained at the international airport here after they were found to be carrying fake visas issued by rogue travel agents.

Most of them did not know which company was supposed to have hired them.

Another eight Indians, who were also detained on arrival on Monday, were later released for having valid employment visas, 'Emirates Today' reported.

"All they knew was that they were coming to Dubai to work. Most of them are uneducated and have been taken for a ride by unscrupulous travel agents. They had been promised a salary of Dh700 (Rs7,834) to Dh800 (Rs8,951). They did not
bother to find out visa procedures," the report said. "No one had any local contacts here, some had phone numbers which did not work."

A senior Indian Airlines official on Monday said the men were travelling on one-way tickets to Dubai and were flown back to New Delhi on the next available flight.

"Immigration officials in India will look into how these men managed to travel without proper travel documents."

The airline recently launched a system forcing employers to authenticate an original visa at the airline office in Dubai before tickets could be issued.

A source at the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department said: "It is the responsibility of a carrier to ensure its passengers are holding visas required by the destination country."
