NEW DELHI: In its bid to give a fillip to the state's tourism industry, Jammu and Kashmir government now plans to develop remote areas like Bungus, Gurez and Tulel valley in Kashmir region and Baderwah and Kishtwar in Jammu region.
"The Jammu and Kashmir Government has made extensive plans for developing new areas in the state for tourism. We have created 19 high powered Development Authorities to give an integrated and focused thrust to tourism in all three regions -- Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh -- of the state," state Tourism Minister Dilawar Mir said on Monday at a conference organised by PHDCCI.
The state has made plans to develop Bungus valley, Gurez and Tulel valley, Baderwah and Kishtwar in Jammu and the Mughal trail. A new tourism strategy is being formulated under which new areas shall be identified and opened up for tourism, he said.
The areas of Gurez and Tulel are significant as they are traditional infiltration routes for militants as they are located in close proximity with Line of Control.
Master Plans for transfer of land and sites for resorts, to be leased to private parties are ready and the state is also promoting golf tourism in a major way. The existing golf courses would be upgraded to meet international standards and host national and international golf events. Pahalgam golf course in South Kashmir was also being upgraded, he said.
Special focus was being laid on developing an international ski resort at Gulmarg, he said, adding that highest Gondola lift (cable way) has been commissioned and more ski lifts were being installed to make available more area of Affarwat range available for skiing.
