Woman held for carrying meat, liquor to Tirumala, attempts suicide

TIRUPATI: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Vigilance Team last night stopped a woman carrying meat and liquor at Alipiri, the entry point for the Tirumala Hills.

Police said here on Monday, Geetha Lakshmi (27) of Jeeva Kona near here was carrying a bag containing ten kg meat and liquor bottles to Tirumala for sale when she was caught by Vigilance officials during a routine check at Ailipiri Tollgate last night.

The woman attempted to commit suicide by consuming sleeping pills. She was later admitted to the government hospital for treatment where her condition was reported to be stable.
