KOLKATA: The security division of the Intelligence Branch (IB) of the West Bengal police has started an investigation to check whether there was any security lapse in the administration of the convoy of the union external affairs minister, Pranab Mukherjee, after his accident on Saturday night.

The investigating team has already reached the spot at Nakashipara in Nadia district where the accident took place, when Mukherjee’s car collided head-on with a truck. It is expected to submit its report tonight.

Meanwhile Mukherjee said he was well and hoped to be back at work after 48 hours.

“I am well but doctors have advised me 48 hours rest. I hope to be back to work after that period,” he said. Mukherjee was flown to the capital from Kolkata this morning and admitted to the army’s Research and Referral Hospital. “I am grateful to all those who have sent me good wishes following the road accident I was involved in,” he added.
