Investigator of Woolmer murder heads to England for Easter

LONDON: Mark Shields, Deputy Commissioner of Jamaica's constabulary and the man leading the investigation into Bob Woolmer's tragic death came in for stinging criticism when he announced that he is flying home to the UK for his Easter holidays.

The 'sexy' 48-year-old former Scotland Yard officer is to leave the island on Thursday to visit his son and daughter who live in a three-storey 650,000 pound house with his ex-wife Julia in Suffolk in South England. "Don't read anything into it. I had always planned to see my kids over the Easter holidays and that is set in stone. I won't change it for anything," said Shields explaining his trip.

Shields will spend the rest of his time in Jamaica liaising with Detective Superintendent John Sweeny and his three-man team from Scotland Yard who will arrive on the island today. Sweeny is from Scotland Yard's Specialist Crime Directorate and has taken two detectives and scene-of-crimes expert with him. "He will be reviewing every aspect of the inquiry, including forensic and CCTV evidence, witness statements and the pathology reports," a Scotland Yard spokesman told DNA in London.
