MUMBAI: The students wing of the Shiv Sena, Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (BVS), on Wednesday presented Maharashtra School Education Minister Vasant Purke with a set of 'lighter' textbooks designed by it, saying they would ease the students'
'burden'.

"Instead of having subject-based textbooks which the students have to carry daily, we thought of having books based on unit tests and term and annual examinations," BVS president Abhijit Panse told reporters at Vidhan Bhawan here after meeting Purke.

"The minister has appreciated our effort and informed us that an expert group will study the issue with the aim of reducing the burden of heavy school bags on students," he said.

Panse also presented bag of a 'typical third standard student' to the minister. "If the students adopt our method, the load will be lighter as they will not be required to carry textbook of all subjects daily," Panse said.

To start with, BVS has prepared textbooks for third and fourth standard students, based on the syllabus prescribed by the state government, he said.

The new system would also ease financial burden on parents "as they will not be reqired to buy all textbooks at the beginning of the academic year," Panse said.
