NEW DELHI: "Disband this team. We don't want big names, we want players, who perform," an angry cricket fan said on Saturday, summing up the reaction of people at large after India's virtual exit from the cricket World Cup.

More than sadness, it was anger which reflected the mood among cricket lovers in the country after India, seen as front-runners by some former players, faced the ignominy of a premature exit from the World Cup after their dismal loss to Sri Lanka on Friday.

The only way that the beleagured Indians can still survive in the showpiece event is if minnows Bermuda can pull off a miraculous win over Bangladesh in their last league
match on Sunday.

Sridharan, a cricket buff for last 40 years, described the Indian team's performance in a crucial match against Sri Lanka as "a real disaster".

"It was a real disaster. It was a simple batting track but our players could not last 50 overs. Even a Ranji team could have played better in this situation," he said.

"The teams gets the best of facilities but the players do not exert themselves when required the most".

"I am a government employee and I feel cheated when money and time is wasted on these players. What is the use of this all. Even Bangladesh are trying their best in the
contest", he added.

Amit Kalve, who works with a multi-national company, said they could have made whatever changes were needed in the team but at the end of the day it was the result which matters.
