NEW DELHI: Controversial BJP MP from Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath on Thursday resigned from the party's national executive apparently miffed over denial of tickets to his supporters in the coming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

"For quite some time I have been alienated in the party in the state party affairs, the party has given tickets to sympathisers of Mulayam Singh regime and have neglected everyone who stands by the Hindu ideology," he said after submitting his resignation to party president Rajnath Singh at the latter's residence.

The BJP, however, said the matter would be resolved as discussions were still on between Rajnath Singh and Adityanath.

"The matter would be sorted out, talks are going on between the party president and Adityanathji," BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said.

Sources said Adityanath had recommended a list of 32 candidates of which none was agreed upon by the party leadership.

Alleging that BJP's state unit was hand-in-glove with the Mulayam's Singh Yadav regime, Adityanath said the party's state leadership was working to 'strengthen SP-BSP forces and suppress the Hindutva supporters.'

Hinting at a possible alliance with Uma Bharti, he said, "I would support every candidate who stands for the Hindu cause." Bharti is understood to have met Adityanath to discuss 'future strategies.'

"If required I would also quit from the Lok Sabha. As for now I have no role in BJP," Adityanath clarified on his status in the party after Thursday's resignation.

On the recent incidents of violence in Gorakhpur, he accused the party of being 'totally silent' on police atrocities against Hindus.

Adityanath, who heads the Hindu Yuva Vahini, a youth outfit in UP, was recently arrested in connection with riots in Gorakhpur.

Three days ago, he broke down in Lok Sabha narrating what he called a 'political conspiracy' of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government against him alleging it was out to 'malign and torment' him.
