MUMBAI: The corpse of a man who allegedly hanged himself from a tree in the Kalyan railway yard three days ago was finally brought down on Monday. A quarrel over jurisdiction between two police stations caused the delay in attending to the case.

For three days, officers from the Kalyan railway police and Kolsewadi police station debated who should take charge of the unclaimed body.

The dispute arose from the location. While the Kalyan station premises are under the railway police, the area beyond platform 7 is under the Kolsewadi police.

“The body was found in the Kalyan yard, near the tracks. That area is in their jurisdiction and they should take action,” Assistant Police Inspector AB Pathan of the Kolsewadi police station said.  But Rajendra Kathavte of the railway police insisted that the area is under the Kolsewadi police.

In the afternoon, the Kolsewadi police finally brought the corpse down.
